Over 90 years ago, Joe Weiss opened up a small lunch stand on Miami Beach. He called it Joe's Restaurant. It was a simple place -- a couple of tables serving local seafood. Joe's wife Jennie ran the front, while Joe was in the back cooking.

“We used to open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in those days,” son Jesse Weiss remembered, “because we were the only restaurant on the beach. For about eight years there was no competition. And my father made a hell of a fish sandwich.”

One day in 1921, a visiting ichthyologist came in with a sack of stone crab and asked if Joe knew how to cook them. Joe Weiss tossed the stone crabs in boiling water. He started serving them cracked with mustard sauce, hash brown potatoes, and cole slaw. They were an instant success, and a legend was born.

For over 90 years, no visit to Miami Beach has been complete without stopping in at Joe's Stone Crab. From the beginning, it has always been the love of food, family, and friends that has brought in customers and kept them coming. A local institution with an international reputation -- Joe's attracts movie stars, journalists, politicians, and athletes.

THE LEGEND CONTINUES

In 2000, Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab™ opened its doors in Chicago. The second location, in Las Vegas at the Forum Shops at Caesars, opened October 2004. Open year round in Chicago and Las Vegas -- the Stone Crab Claws with Mustard Sauce are a signature dish of course, and Joe's Bone-In Signature Prime Steaks are a welcome new addition. Joe's also features an extensive selection of seafood, flown in fresh daily. Add one of Joe's famous side dishes, like Creamed Spinach or Jennie's Potatoes, and finish with a slice of the justifiably famous Key Lime Pie.
